We are definitely pioneering out here….
Monday… Poor Austin – Ready to go to Vacation Bible School on Monday and it was pouring… We couldn't go anywhere Monday…
Tuesday… The rain subsided, but the truck was sinking to the axle all by itself… 🙂 So Austin and I got up – I put my rucksack on my back with my laptop and the bear spray in the pocket – my pistol on my hip and we embarked on our walk of about 3.5 miles one way to what we were told was a gate at the end of the road… 🙂 Well we hiked our 3.5 miles to find that the owners of the land did not gate the road to keep the bar traffic from crossing their land – they built their horse stable and pasture across the road… The only way around was a deer trail on a very steep hill dropping down to river… 🙂 Yes… Of course we tried it…. We were already soaked because of the high grasses so lets add a little mud to the mix… 🙂 Sorry no pics to share…
We could see the kids playing in the back of the church – not only could we see them – we could hear them too – they were directly across the river from us, but we could not get across the river… 🙂 Needless to say – Austin was not a happy camper – the deer trail was merely big enough for a deer that was stealthing thru the bramble… We did not make it and I was concerned about getting shot – have heard some of the stories these people have gone thru and the reasons for closing the road so we headed home…. 🙂 Austin wanted to go across the river… I said go ahead – if you can make it across be my guest… It had been completely down pouring for 3 days straight with no let up so you can only imagine what the river looked like. Poor guy… He is learning many things on this pioneering adventure. It was a nice walk though, we got to see a deer and it was a beautiful morning (it wasn't raining) and we headed home for eggs…
Wednesday… We ventured trying to get the truck out of the mud…. Made it, but we were very late getting Austin to VBS. He was able to participate for about 2 hours and then we headed next door to get our Library membership. He was thrilled – in his spare time and on rainy days he has been reading and reading and reading….
Thursday… Well were just ready to get in the truck to head to VBS and Austin had a spicy mouth episode which caused us to be the mean parents… Yes – he stayed home today… BUT I believe we got our point across… Austin did have a special moment prior to all this… He shot his first bird (in the head) with his bb gun that he and Glen purchased the day of our wedding for his help around the Trayer farm.
Friday… YES – he made it… He was even on time…. Such a goins on…. He got to meet a bunch of the local boys and girls and got to play with Joshua….
That concluded VBS 2010….
