I am really quite blessed to be able to review so many wonderful books and I greatly enjoy being able to share the with you. As you know I love BREAD and this could not have been more perfect for me!
Melissa Richardson refers to herself as The Bread Geek and I think it is safe to say I could join her… 🙂 The great part for me is that my men LOVE bread almost as much as I do. The thing I make the most of in my house is starchy deliciousness and there is nothing better than or more comforting than the smell of fresh bread baking!
Melissa's book Beyond Basics with Natural Yeast is a fantastic book to have on hand and so is her precursor The Art of Baking with Natural Yeast. For those of you that are new to bread baking you may wish to start with The Art of Baking with Natural Yeast so that you have a full understanding of working with natural yeast before you dive into Beyond Basics with Natural Yeast. You will be very ahead of the game having them both on hand.
Melissa breaks it down and really shares the nuts and bolts on bread baking and explains exactly what natural yeast is. I LOVE working with natural yeast and being as self reliant as we are it is a wonderful feeling knowing that I can still bake my wonderful breads and get the same results if store bought yeast were to become unavailable.
Working with and using natural yeast also provides amazing health benefits to which are extremely important in my son's and my diet.
The traditions of the past have always been alluring to me and this is certainly quite a traditional skill to have under your belt. In addition to all the knowledge and education you get from Melissa's books, you also get fabulous recipes like her Pumpernickle Bread on page 30 of Beyond Basics with Natural Yeast and her Soft Pretzel Rolls on page 34. Oh and her Jalapeno Cheddar Sourdough on page 40…. I could go on and on and on….
I feel that learning how to successfully work with natural yeast is an important skill and I highly recommend both of Melissa's books. I feel it was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to review such books and I am thankful to have them in my kitchen. My only struggle is not wanting to make every recipe every time I open her book! ♥ So many yummy choices….
