Mountain Woman Journals - How To Make HE Laundry Detergent or SoapThe day I made the soap was a sunny day and I was ALL out of my laundry detergent.  To most this would not be a concern, but because we are off-grid you learn to utilize all your resources.  Our biggest resource back here in the wilderness is the SUN!!

We save a lot of chores and projects for sunny days.  Not that we would absolutely have to, but we pride ourselves in being frugally conservative.  This of course, is a choice.  I could do wash on a cloudy day, but most chances are that some point in the day we would need to use the generator to recharge our batteries.  This would require us to fuel up the generator and have it running for at least an hour.  In our mind that is a waste of fuel and our hard earned money.

So it was a sunny day and I wanted to do wash, but no more homemade laundry soap.

I put together a video.  You will have to forgive me.  The camera was not cooperating and although I am the most savvy in the house with my own web design business for 10 years and for 10 years before that I programmed computers.  So you would think the video camera wouldn't be an issue, but I think it has to do with the individual it is trying to record. 🙂

Some of my video cut off and since I was in a bit of a hurry because it was a good chance that the amount of sun would be quite limited because of the time of year and this time of year is a very busy time with my web design business and my writing.  I promise next time I do a video I will be sure it is not a rushed deal.

HE Laundry Detergent/Soap

1/2 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1 bar castile soap
1/2 oz to an 1 oz of fragrance (optional)

As far as the fragrance goes, in this batch I used Lavender Essential Oil.   I also use a combination of pine oils.  When we were living in the canvas wall tent for 81/2 months, we went to bed smelling the pines and we woke to smelling the pines.  We refer to our combination of oils as Trayer Wilderness, which we felt very fitting. 🙂  To get an idea of how wonderful this smells, I do make goats milk soaps and soy candles that can be purchased on our business site at http://rockinggtdesigns.com.   Any fragrance will work if you are partial to another essential oil.

I hope this has helped.  I wanted to let everyone know that I am currently working on several e-books that I believe you will find useful.  As soon as they are available I will let you know.

Currently I am blessed to be up to my eyeballs in all sorts of work, but there will be more videos and knowledge being shared.

Take care and God Bless!
