God’s Mercy is Never Ending. In Ephesians 3:16–17, the bible says, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love.”
The mercies of God can never be exhausted. In a world filled with temporary things and relationships, it is comforting to know that we have a God who is ever-faithful. His love never changes and it will never run out. As Christians, we can live with our minds at rest because we know that we have a loving God. In Micah 6:8, the word of the Lord says, “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” These are words to all of mankind. Mercy is offered to you and me alike. He has shown us what is good and answers what is required of us. Micah asks God in Micah 7:18, “Where is another God like you who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of the special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love.”
This passage shows that God enjoys being merciful, and is still showing mercy today. One example of God’s mercy today is the remarkable story of my own brother Johnson, my family members, tried to urge Johnson to go into drug rehab without much success. I remember the Lord convicting me to pray for my brother and I prayed to God, asking for His intervention with my brother Johnson. I was reminded by the words from God, “Who do I need to do anything, remember who I AM. I can take that drug away from your brother, squash it and it will not return.” I prayed for Jesus to come intervene into this situation and for sure my brother was healed. My brother is now drug free and enjoying a blessed relationship with the rest of us. From that time onwards I have learned to stand on Luke 1:50, “His mercy extends to those who fear [revere] him, from generation to generation.”
There are many references about God’s mercy throughout the Bible. For instance, in Genesis 37 through 45, we find the story of Joseph, son of Jacob. God’s mercy toward Joseph’s brothers for their betrayal is certainly evident in this story. Other illustrations are found throughout the prayers of King David in the Psalms. God’s mercy is endless and found throughout the ages to the present. It’s this love that we receive that should inspire us to love God just as much and to live our lives righteously. We should strive to be faithful, because He was faithful first.
