I enjoy helping people and paying forward kindness and good deeds! I do believe that I inherited that and I am proud and thankful for that trait!
My hair was down to my bottom and I was getting tired of leaning on it, having others leaning on it, it was heavy and it was just time for a change! I only went this drastic one other time in my life and I believe I was in my very early 20's (yikes, very long time ago), but two weeks ago I had the Mountain Man scared. He likes my long hair and honestly so do I, but it was time and the benefit with hair is that it WILL grow back. He was so scared he almost came with me to the hair dresser's!
He drew the line on my back with his finger and said PLEASE don't go above that! Well the hair dresser also drew the line and it was perfect, until she dried it!! It was between 1 & 2 inches different that what he would have preferred and honestly me too, HOWEVER, I couldn't not gift a child with hair over 2 inches… That would have surely eaten at me SO… As we say here often for varying reasons, “It Is What It Is!” AND it will grow back and be much healthier and another perk my neck and shoulders aren't sore anymore from the weight of my hair!
I did want to mention how wonderful my Mountain Man is… He said to me, “If you like it, then I will like it”. It is a touch shorter than he would like it, but he knew my heart was in the right place. I do have to admit, when I woke the next morning, I was a little like – what in the world did I do! I did love my long hair, but more than anything I am thankful to put a smile on a small child's face during a hard time. My hair will grow back and the deep special feeling that has come along with this gift makes it all the more special!
I wanted to encourage both you guys and gals to consider donating your hair if you have long hair and are feeling the need for a change. I donated my hair to Locks Of Love and they do have special guidelines to which you can find on their website as well as a form you can print off and send in with your hair. It is a minimum requirement to send 10″ and I mailed mine this week!!
If you are not familiar with Locks Of Love, they use the donated hair and makes wigs for children that have lost their hair due to illness or injury. It is a GREAT program and it is such a precious gift at a trying time in these children's lives. I have many friend's and friend's children that have gone through such circumstances and I know how much the simple things can make a difference!
It feels good to be able to gift someone in such a way! God is good and we have our health and I just feel overcome with, I don't know, is that a feeling of joy, love, the satisfaction of giving something that we take for granite? I am honestly not sure, but I feel good inside and I also feel very blessed!
So I encourage you, if you are planning on a drastic hair cut or it is time for a change – consider donating your hair. Also consider not only this time of year, but ALL year long the simple acts of kindness you could share. Making a meal for a family you know is in need, mowing the grass for an elderly neighbor, shoveling the snow for someone in need, helping someone with a door, sharing a smile, etc… The list goes on and on and honestly, the simplest acts of kindness go such a long way.
What have you done lately? What might you do upcoming?
Blessings,
Tammy ♥ †
